System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster is free to claim on the Epic Games Store until October 8, 2026. Add it to your library before the deadline and it stays yours to keep, even after the promotion ends.
What you get
Nightdive Studios rebuilt the 1999 classic from Looking Glass Studios and Irrational Games for modern hardware. The remaster launched on June 26, 2025, and it lists at 29.99 US dollars on Steam. The Epic offer covers the PC version.
The story opens in the year 2114. You wake from cryo sleep aboard the starship Von Braun with no memory, while hybrid mutants and deadly robots roam the decks. SHODAN, the rogue AI from the first game, has taken control, and it is up to you to stop her as you explore the ship deck by deck.
According to the official store description, the remaster adds cooperative multiplayer with crossplay and mod support on top of the original mix of shooter and role playing systems. If you never played the game that shaped titles like BioShock, this is the easiest way to try it.
At the start you choose one of three military branches, the Marines, the Navy or the O.S.A., and each one points you toward a different play style. Nightdive also lists enhanced character and weapon models, support for up to 144 frames per second with ultrawide screens, optimized controller support and 50 achievements.
Will it run on your PC?
