An alleged Ryzen 9 5900X3D engineering sample has surfaced on Chiphell. Tom’s Hardware and Wccftech report that its CPU-Z screenshots show 12 cores, 24 threads and 128MB of L3 cache. This is reporting about an unreleased sample, not an AMD announcement of a product you can buy.
Why 128MB and 192MB are different
Wccftech distinguishes the newly reported configuration, with 32MB on one chiplet and 96MB on the other, from older Zen 3 prototypes with 96MB on each chiplet. Those older dual-cache designs total 192MB and were shown during Gamers Nexus’s 2023 AMD visit. They are not the same configuration as the reported 128MB sample.
What it means for players
The distinction matters when comparing specifications: an experimental design is not a retail recommendation, and a screenshot is not a gaming benchmark. The reports do not establish a release date, retail price or a tested performance advantage for this sample.
How strong is the evidence?
Both current reports point back to the same Chiphell post. That is one underlying report covered by two outlets, not two independent measurements. The cache figures should remain attributed to those reports unless AMD supplies further confirmation.
Correction: We removed an unrelated Ryzen 9 9950X shopping paragraph and clarified that the 192MB discussion concerned a different prototype.
