Warner Bros. Officially Confirms a Hogwarts Legacy Sequel

Warner Bros. has officially confirmed a second Hogwarts Legacy game, but no release date, platforms, trailer or final title have been announced.

Warner Bros. Officially Confirms a Hogwarts Legacy Sequel

Warner Bros. Discovery has officially confirmed that a second Hogwarts Legacy game is part of its upcoming games pipeline.

The confirmation appeared in the company’s Q2 2026 shareholder letter, where Warner Bros. referred directly to “the second installment of Hogwarts Legacy.” It is the clearest official acknowledgment of the sequel so far, although it was not accompanied by a trailer, logo or traditional game announcement.

For now, Hogwarts Legacy 2 remains an unofficial name used by players and media outlets. Warner Bros. has not revealed the sequel’s final title.

What Warner Bros. officially confirmed

Warner Bros. described games as an important part of its long-term growth strategy. The company said it is focusing its investment on fewer projects connected to its biggest franchises.

As part of that discussion, Warner Bros. said it expects its games pipeline to expand and specifically included the second installment of Hogwarts Legacy.

This confirms that another Hogwarts Legacy game is planned. However, the shareholder letter provides no additional details about its development or release.

What has not been announced

Warner Bros. has not announced a release date or even a release window for the sequel.

The company has also not confirmed its platforms, developer, story, setting, gameplay systems or whether it will include any online or multiplayer features. There is currently no official trailer, gameplay footage, store page or logo.

Claims suggesting a 2027 or 2028 launch, specific consoles, live-service elements, Quidditch or a direct continuation of the original protagonist’s story should therefore be treated as speculation.

Avalanche Software developed the original Hogwarts Legacy, but the new shareholder letter does not identify the studio developing the second installment.

Why a sequel was expected

Hogwarts Legacy became the number-one-selling new game release of 2023, according to Warner Bros. Games. The open-world action RPG allowed players to attend Hogwarts during the 1800s, learn spells, explore the castle and travel through the surrounding wizarding world.

The original game was developed by Avalanche Software and published by Warner Bros. Games under the Portkey Games label. It was released across PlayStation, Xbox, PC and Nintendo platforms, including a later enhanced version for Nintendo Switch 2.

Its commercial success made a follow-up highly likely, but Warner Bros. had previously stopped short of making a formal announcement.

In 2024, then-Warner Bros. Games president David Haddad told Variety that a sequel was a major priority. He also said the games team had been coordinating some broad storytelling elements with the HBO Harry Potter series.

That earlier information does not mean the sequel will directly adapt the television series or share its characters. Warner Bros. has not yet explained how closely the two projects may be connected.

When could the full reveal happen?

Warner Bros. has not provided a date for the sequel’s formal presentation.

The next meaningful update will likely arrive through an official Warner Bros. Games announcement, a trailer or a dedicated store page. Until then, the only confirmed information is that a second installment of Hogwarts Legacy is included in the company’s future games pipeline.

What would you most like the sequel to improve: the school experience, player choices, exploration or the consequences of using dark magic?
