NVIDIA DLSS 5: Neural Rendering in NBA 2K27

DLSS 5, developed by NVIDIA, is available in NBA 2K27 from developer Visual Concepts and publisher 2K, supporting all GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs and laptops, as well as GeForce NOW. It marks the first use of generative neural rendering in a game, where the final visual output is generated rather than reconstructed from a higher-cost reference.

The technology uses generative AI to simulate complex real-world effects like subsurface scattering in skin and light scattering through foliage, which traditional real-time rendering cannot fully capture due to performance constraints. It does not replace physically based rendering or artistic authorship but complements them by providing learned visual knowledge.

Tyrese Haliburton joined NVIDIA GeForce Evangelist Jacob Freeman to view DLSS 5 in action, highlighting its potential to enhance visual fidelity through AI-driven realism in game development.
