Epic Games confirmed that Fortnite's next mini-season, Treasure Hunters, brings a One Piece crossover and starts Sunday, Nov. 1.
The reveal
Epic Games spent the days before the reveal building hype on social media, promising a big announcement on Oct. 24 at 2 p.m. ET, according to Polygon. A few hours earlier, Fortnite shared the name of the new season, Treasure Hunters, in a short teaser. Then the announcement went live: One Piece is coming to Fortnite next season. Insider Gaming reports that the collaboration was first hinted at in September, when it was teased that the mini-season closing out Chapter 7 would center on One Piece.
Anime or Netflix version
The teaser shows the Going Merry, the Straw Hat Pirates' first ship, emerging from the fog. Polygon says this confirms Fortnite is collaborating with the One Piece anime rather than the Netflix series, because the boat's figurehead in the show is slightly different. Insider Gaming's report says it is not yet clear which variant the crossover will draw inspiration from. Polygon adds that the anime style characters in earlier teasers already pointed in that direction.
Teasers and crew logos
Before confirming the collab, Fortnite revealed Treasure Hunters in a short teaser with a treasure map and a November 1 date, Insider Gaming says. The same trailer teased the return of Hatsune Miku as a Fortnite Sprite, plus a tease for a Kasane Teto Fortnite Sprite. Polygon adds that an in-game news feed image showed several pirate crew logos, among them Peely, Hatsune Miku, Kasane Teto and Lil Uzi Vert. Players had little time to decipher the other logos before the big announcement went live.
What comes next
Polygon says downtime will begin to prepare for the launch of the mini-season, which should last about a month before a brand-new chapter begins. Insider Gaming describes Treasure Hunters as the mini-season that will close out Chapter 7 of Fortnite. The outlet also says it will keep following the story and report updates as more information becomes available.
Our Take
As always, Fortnite delivers terrific updates. Every time a new season comes around, Epic finds a way to make it feel like a big event, and Treasure Hunters is a perfect example.
A One Piece crossover starting Nov. 1 is a great way to close out Chapter 7. Epic built up the hype for days before the Oct. 24 reveal, and the Going Merry coming out of the fog in the teaser is a nice touch. Add the Hatsune Miku and Kasane Teto Sprite teases and the pirate crew logos in the news feed, and there is plenty to dig into already.
For players, this means there is always something new to look forward to, and that is exactly why the game keeps people coming back. I can't wait to see what the mini-season brings.

One Piece and video games
Insider Gaming adds that Insider Gaming describes One Piece as a very popular anime with nearly 1,200 episodes to date and a manga that has been running for nearly 30 years. The franchise has games behind it as well. One Piece: Grand Gourmet brought a cooking and restaurant management sim to Nintendo Switch, PC and mobile, and One Piece characters also appeared in the 2019 Jump Force video game.
