Monster Hunter Wilds has reached 11.8 million units sold worldwide, according to Capcom’s latest official sales data.
That is a major result for the 2025 release, but Monster Hunter: World remains far ahead with 30.4 million units when sales from the Iceborne Master Edition are included.
The difference between the two figures is 18.6 million units. However, the comparison needs some important context before drawing conclusions about the future of the series.
Capcom’s Latest Sales Data
Capcom’s official Platinum Titles page lists Monster Hunter Wilds at 11.8 million units sold. The game launched on February 28, 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
The same page lists Monster Hunter: World at 22.4 million units on its own. Capcom also displays a separate combined figure of 30.4 million units that includes the Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Master Edition.
This means the most widely shared 30.4 million figure does not represent the base game alone. It includes a major expansion package that was sold as part of a combined product.
Does Capcom Want Wilds to Beat World?
Capcom has not officially said that Monster Hunter Wilds will definitely surpass Monster Hunter: World, and the company has not published a specific sales target requiring Wilds to beat its predecessor.
What Capcom has confirmed is that it wants to continue expanding the Monster Hunter series worldwide. In an official announcement, the company described World as its best selling single title and said it remains focused on growing its global user base.
Capcom is also developing Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, a large paid expansion scheduled for 2027. The expansion will add new quest ranks, locations, monsters and expanded weapon actions.
Why the Comparison Is Complicated
Monster Hunter: World launched in January 2018 and has had many more years to build its audience through discounts, updates, the Iceborne expansion and repeated releases across PC and console platforms.
Monster Hunter Wilds has been available for a much shorter period. Its 11.8 million units already place it among Capcom’s biggest selling games, but the title still has a long way to go before it can match World’s broader lifetime total.
A more direct comparison is 11.8 million for Wilds against 22.4 million for the base version of World. That leaves a difference of 10.6 million units before counting Iceborne Master Edition sales.
Can Wilds Close the Gap?
The 2027 Ascendance expansion could help Monster Hunter Wilds attract returning players and reach new customers. Capcom has also announced that it is developing Wilds for Nintendo Switch 2, although further details are still to come.
Those plans could extend the game’s commercial lifespan, but they do not guarantee that Wilds will overtake World. Future sales will depend on the quality of the expansion, pricing, player reception, platform reach and how long Capcom continues to support the game.
The Confirmed Picture
Monster Hunter Wilds is already a major commercial success with 11.8 million units sold.
Monster Hunter: World remains Capcom’s biggest selling single title, with 30.4 million units when the Iceborne Master Edition is included.
The claim that Capcom officially wants Wilds to surpass World is not confirmed. The accurate conclusion is that Capcom is continuing to expand Wilds and the wider Monster Hunter brand, while World remains the sales benchmark.
