According to Game Rant, Konami's Silent Hill: Townfall gets update 1.6 with a new Hard difficulty mode, available now on PS5, Steam and the Epic Games Store.
Hard mode joins the list
Screen Burn Interactive has released a new Silent Hill: Townfall update on PS5 and PC, and its headline feature is a new Hard difficulty mode. Until now the game had a tougher setting in the form of Nightmare Mode, and Hard slots in between that and Normal. According to the team, Hard mode calls for an emphasis on stealth, rewarding patience and careful use of resources.
Balance changes across modes
Game Rant and PSU note that Adding Hard meant touching the other settings too. The update rebalances gameplay across all difficulty levels to create a smoother difficulty curve. Resource availability is adjusted in certain sections of the game, and enemy hearing sensitivity now varies by difficulty, increasing with the difficulty level. One change applies everywhere: the player's position is now visible on the map in every difficulty mode.
The Weight gets another tweak
The enemy known as The Weight became a frequent source of frustration after launch, with players criticizing its tendency to linger near objectives and kill Simon instantly upon catching him. An October 8 update made the creature less aggressive and replaced its instant-kill grabs with heavy damage on Story and Normal difficulties. The new patch now limits that reduced attack severity to Story Mode only, which suggests Screen Burn is trying to balance fairness against the intended challenge.
Our Take
Screen Burn is clearly tuning Townfall in public, and that is good news for players who bounced off the stealth. The risk is over-correcting, since the map change now reaches Nightmare too and one reviewer already thinks the studio is going a touch overboard. We would watch whether Hard becomes the default way to play, because that decides if the studio keeps rebalancing or moves on.

Menus, hints and accessibility
Anyone starting a new run on Nightmare will now see a warning screen if it is chosen for a first playthrough. Difficulty descriptions give a clearer summary of the differences between options, and the game adds more hints and tutorials, plus improved puzzle hints and item wording. Valve status lighting is improved for colorblind players, and the options menu is reorganized into categories. The controls remapping option was renamed because keyboard and mouse commands can be remapped there too.
PC options and earlier patches
Game Rant and Push Square write that PC players get a DLSS Ray Reconstruction option, though Konami has not specified whether it will improve performance. The change follows earlier updates that addressed shader-compilation stuttering and other technical issues. Screen Burn has already released several updates answering player complaints, and this patch continues that effort. Before it, the studio had adjusted the behavior of its worst enemy and made a baffling puzzle solvable.
Mixed reception so far
Critics have praised the game's unsettling atmosphere and storytelling, while player reception has been more divided, particularly over frustrating stealth encounters and technical performance issues. A reviewer who played before launch says changes had to be made to The Weight and to a puzzle near the end, because neither felt fair. The same reviewer found the general difficulty very fair on Normal and feels Screen Burn is going a touch overboard with the latest round.
