Zelda: Ocarina of Time Trailer Shows Switch 2 Forest and Fire Temples

Zelda: Ocarina of Time trailer gives new look at dungeons in Switch 2 remake

According to IGN, Nintendo has released new Ocarina of Time remake trailers as the Switch 2 game heads toward its November 5, 2026 launch.

Homage to the 1998 ad

Nintendo has released a new Ocarina of Time remake trailer that pays homage to the 1998 commercial for the N64 game, according to IGN. The new spot recreates some of the same shots and even some of the same language. It asks whether the viewer will flee or fight, while Link encounters Ganondorf on his horse, just as in the original trailer. IGN says reaction to the trailer has been overwhelmingly positive, with fans joking about preordering as soon as payday arrives.

One difference: the music

IGN points to one major difference from the original advert. Nintendo’s recreation leaves out the custom-recorded version of the track Riddle of Steel and Riders of Doom, which the original trailer took from the 1982 film Conan the Barbarian. IGN jokes that music rights are the likely reason. The outlet also published a comparison video that shows how close the new trailer stays to the original.

A separate YouTube short called Test Thy Courage focuses on the temples, according to Notebookcheck. The video is a speed run through many of the levels, with Link solving puzzles and facing bosses. It opens inside the Great Deku Tree, moves through the Forest Temple, then enters Jabu-Jabu's Belly. The Water Temple and Fire Temple also appear. Notebookcheck says it is unclear whether Nintendo has significantly expanded the dungeons, though one additional announced destination is the Hall of Fallen Heroes.

The dungeon short also shows how the controls have changed. Manual jumping was revealed at the Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct, and Notebookcheck says the footage confirms leaping is critical in the dungeons as Link moves between platforms. The outlet expects players who want the N64 feel to be able to revert to the classic scripted jumps, though that is its own expectation. Previews have discussed third-person aiming with the fairy bow, and the refreshed mechanics and camera options also apply to the hookshot.

Pocket Tactics reports a third video, a 30-second trailer posted on Nintendo's Japanese YouTube channel. It opens with Ganondorf playing a gigantic organ, then shows Link fighting bosses in different areas. It includes a brief look at Dark Link, along with full designs for Saria and Sheik and a glance at the Great Deku Tree. Link is also seen riding Epona and shooting arrows in third person, which suggests horseback combat has been overhauled. The outlet notes the trailer was not on the American or UK channels.

Our Take

We think the most useful part of this trailer run is the dungeon short, because it shows the remake changing how Link moves and aims rather than just how the game looks. The homage ad is nostalgia, but manual jumping and third-person aiming are what will decide whether the temples feel fresh. We would watch how the bosses play, since Notebookcheck notes some fans worry the old enemies will be too predictable.
