Nintendo Switch Sports Resort Is Out Now on Nintendo Switch 2

Nintendo Switch Sports Resort is out now, having launched on October 22, 2026 exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo’s new motion sports collection costs 49.99 US dollars as a digital download and brings 12 sports to Wuhu Island.

Twelve sports on Wuhu Island

The lineup covers land, sea and sky: Archery, Basketball, Bowling, Boxing, Golf, Power Cruising, Prop Plane, Skateboarding, Table Tennis, Tennis, Thumb Wrestling and Volleyball. Thumb Wrestling and Skateboarding are new, the other ten return, and Jump Rope serves as an optional warm up.

Thumb Wrestling asks you to pin your rival’s thumb for three seconds, and holding your own thumb down makes it grow bigger and stronger. Skateboarding uses the Joy-Con 2 controller as a mouse to grind rails, slide and pull off aerial tricks.

Returning sports keep their motion tricks: twist the controller to boost in Power Cruising or spin a bowling ball, tilt it to fly the Prop Plane, and watch the wind in Archery.

The island is also open to explore at three times of day, with dolphins to chase, hidden hibiscus flowers to find and Spocco Photos to collect on Sightseeing Tours.

Island Crown, online play and customization

Island Crown is the main solo mode. Across nine sports, you climb the rankings against Island Champions and Island Legends, including the Mii character Matt, earning customization items and Spocco Points.

Up to four people can play on one system. Online, the game supports two to 16 players through Casual Online Play across nine sports, a ranked Pro League that pairs you with players of similar skill, and private Friend Lobbies for up to eight players, with two per console. GameChat is supported too.

All online features require a Nintendo Switch Online membership. Nintendo is offering a free seven day trial that works even for players who used one before, though not for accounts with an active Individual or Family Membership.

You can compete as a Sportsmate or as your own Mii. Spocco Points unlock hairstyles, outfits and accessories in the Item Center, which rotates two randomized collections every week and adds themed items every month, starting with Halloween gear this October.

Controls and what to know before buying

Joy-Con 2 controllers are the main way to play, and Nintendo says most older Joy-Con controllers work too. Skateboarding is the exception, since it requires a Joy-Con 2. The store page lists TV and tabletop modes and a 10.3 GB download.

Nintendo’s official pages say nothing about amiibo support or about any upgrade or discount for owners of the earlier Nintendo Switch Sports, so for now this is a standalone purchase.

For anyone still without the console, a Nintendo Switch 2 bundle with a full download of the game and a three month Nintendo Switch Online Individual Membership sells for 529.99 US dollars. Nintendo says that saves 27.98 US dollars compared with buying everything separately, while supplies last.

Our Take

This is interesting to me. I think Wii Sports was a real success, and I honestly don't know why the series just stopped all of a sudden. It felt like it vanished overnight.

I still remember when it first came out. It was total madness, and everybody wanted to play. That's why I'm glad to see Nintendo Switch Sports Resort on Nintendo Switch 2, with 12 sports on Wuhu Island for 49.99 US dollars as a digital download.

I hope it does well. This kind of motion sports game deserves another big moment, and I'd love to see that craze come back.
