According to VGC, Narrative director Antony De Fault told IGN that Saber Interactive wanted Hellraiser: Revival banned somewhere, and Indonesia has refused it.
The unofficial goal
Narrative director Antony De Fault told IGN that the team at Saber Interactive had an unofficial goal for Hellraiser: Revival. According to VGC, which reported the interview, the aim was to get the game banned or censored somewhere in the world. De Fault described that outcome as one barometer of whether the developers had done their jobs right, proof that the game delivered the extreme content the series is known for. He said the team wanted the content to be as graphic as the Hellraiser movies and Clive Barker's original novella The Hellbound Heart.
De Fault said the team still made at least one change to avoid going too far. In a sequence where a character pleasures himself to images of the player's girlfriend, the developers arranged the room so players cannot get in front of him. He said that showing the character's genitals would almost certainly have tipped the age ratings over a threshold and removed the game from sale in most places. De Fault called it a tiny tweak and argued the mental image is more unsettling than anything made from pixels.
Indonesia rating decision
VGC reports that Hellraiser: Revival is available uncut in most countries, though with the highest rating available. The outlet notes that the Indonesia Game Rating System gave the game an RC rating, short for Refused Classification, which essentially bans it from sale in Indonesia. VGC therefore concludes that the team appears to have achieved its unofficial goal. The sources do not say whether the studio or the publisher has responded to the Indonesian decision.
According to PSU, Hellraiser: Revival released for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S on October 8. The game is a canonical entry in the horror franchise and follows protagonist Aiden, who uses a puzzle box called the Genesis Configuration to help his girlfriend, Sunny, escape the Labyrinth. Pinhead appears again, played by Doug Bradley. PSU also notes that Clive Barker told Dread Central he is proud of the final version and was impressed by how far the developer pushed things without being censored.

Our Take
We think the Indonesia decision shows the cost of the studio's approach more clearly than any interview line. A team that treats a ban as a measure of success accepts that some players will never be able to buy the game. The one scene change, which kept the game on sale in most places, suggests the studio knew exactly where the line sat. We expect the debate to center on whether making players perform taboo acts adds anything beyond shock.
