Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux are getting a free next gen update from 4A Games. It arrives on October 22, 2026, on PC and on October 29, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and Series S, and every player who already owns the games gets it at no extra cost.
The Metro series has now sold 50 million copies worldwide, 16 years after Metro 2033 first launched. The team calls the free update a thank you to the players who have stuck with the series.
Not a remaster, but a real upgrade
This is not a full remaster or a remake. The original Redux look and feel stays the same, but both games get careful upgrades for modern PCs and consoles. Every platform gets 4K textures, better animation, higher quality audio and richer detail in the world, plus a batch of bug fixes and quality of life changes that the community asked for.

What changes on PS5 and Xbox
The update adds native versions for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro and Xbox Series X and Series S. Console players can play in true 4K at 60 FPS or in upscaled 4K at 120 FPS on a compatible TV or monitor, with better lighting, shadows and particle effects.
PS5 Pro owners get PSSR upscaling, while Xbox Series X uses TSR upscaling and anti aliasing. DualSense adaptive triggers and Xbox impulse triggers are both supported, along with Spatial Audio on Xbox, a Power Optimized Mode on Xbox and Power Saver Mode on PlayStation. Xbox Play Anywhere and Xbox handheld support also let you keep playing on the go.
What changes on PC
On PC, the update adds DLSS support and spatial audio, together with more community bug fixes and frequently requested improvements. 4A Games says the full patch notes will be shared at launch.
