The METRO Redux Next-Gen Update is live, adding 4K, uncapped frame rates and DLSS on PC for both games, according to the Steam notes.

Stability and crash fixes

The patch notes put heavy focus on stability. The team lists improved stability on modern PC hardware, covering Windows 11, AMD GPUs and high refresh rate displays, including crashes during chapter transitions and on launch. Fixes also target a crash when picking up a gas mask. For newer AMD hardware, the notes say infinite loading screens and black screens after the intro logos are fixed.

Save problems get a long list of fixes. The notes say save corruption on PS5 that made later chapters after Regina unavailable has been fixed. The game also no longer creates a checkpoint when the player has too little filter time left, which the notes say prevents saves where the player suffocates before finding more filters. Another entry fixes Steam Cloud not uploading save data.

Display and controller fixes

Display and input fixes are also included. The notes say missing modern resolutions such as 1440p and 4K are fixed, ending a limit to legacy resolutions like 1600×1200. Lighting and shadow quality are improved, with fixes for pixelated bloom, broken shadows and white halo artifacts. On controls, the update fixes the DualSense Wireless Controller not being recognized in the Steam version.

The update also adds Deep Silver Account support to both games. The Steam post says players can link an account to one or more of three titles to unlock an exclusive comic book. Each linked game also earns a competition entry to win a copy of METRO 2039, launching on February 4th, 2027. Signing up to the Deep Silver newsletter adds a further entry, for up to four chances to win.

Microsoft Store version note

Players on the Microsoft Store version get a specific warning. The notes say saves will not carry over to the upgraded version and a New Game start is recommended. Chapter select will be unlocked, so players can start any chapter with a default set of equipment. The notes also list a power optimized mode for Xbox Ally/X and the Microsoft Store version.

Our Take

We think the most important part of this update is the maintenance work, since the notes lean on crash, freeze and save fixes more than on visual extras. The PS5 save corruption fix and the checkpoint change matter most for anyone who got stuck in these games. The Microsoft Store warning about saves is the detail to check before upgrading, so players should read the full patch notes in the Steam post first.
