The ROG Xbox Ally X20 is out in the US, and it costs 1,299 US dollars. That’s 300 dollars more than the ROG Xbox Ally X, for a handheld with the same Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme chip, the same 24 GB of memory and the same 1 TB SSD.
ASUS confirmed it went on sale on October 15, 2026, at the ASUS Store and Best Buy, alongside a 2,499 dollar 20th anniversary bundle with ROG XREAL AR glasses. What the extra money buys is a bigger OLED screen and better controls, not more speed.
Our Take
I really like this type of console. Personally, I call them couch consoles. You grab one, sink into the sofa, and you're playing, no desk and no big setup needed.
For certain games, they're perfect. And for vacations, they're just as good, because you can take your library with you and keep playing wherever you end up. That's what makes a handheld like the ROG Xbox Ally X20 appealing to me.
The X20 is out in the US at 1,299 US dollars, and the 7.4 inch OLED screen and the better controls fit exactly this kind of lazy couch and travel play. I'm a fan of the idea, even if that price is steep.

Against the Ally X, the X20 swaps the 7 inch IPS panel for a 7.4 inch OLED, moves to a microSD Express reader, and adds the new sticks and D pad. It’s 41 g heavier, according to The Gadgeteer. It also gets Reactive Lighting, which is exclusive to the X20, and comes with Armoury Crate SE version 3.
The AR glasses bundle
The ROG 20th Anniversary Bundle costs 2,499 US dollars. You get the X20, ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 AR glasses, a dbrand Killswitch case with skin, stick covers and travel cover, and a custom Pelican Protector Case. The glasses use 0.55 inch Sony micro OLED panels at 1920 x 1080 per eye, with a 57 degree field of view and a virtual screen of up to 171 inches. On their own, ASUS sells them for 799 dollars.
What players and reviewers are saying
Reaction to the price was better than you’d expect. When ASUS confirmed 1,299 dollars in August, fan threads collected by Notebookcheck showed relief, because many had braced for 1,400 to 1,600. Others were annoyed that 1,299 now counts as reasonable, criticized the reused chip, and said Ally X owners have little reason to upgrade.
Gizmodo gave the X20 4.5 out of 5, calling it the best looking and most comfortable handheld you can buy. It also found performance within a few frames of the Ally X and 30 to 40 percent behind MSI’s Claw 8 EX AI+ in many games. Gizmodo didn’t like the transforming D pad, which doesn’t lock in place. ASUS’s own US store showed the standalone model as temporarily out of stock on launch day.
Where to buy it
In the US, ASUS sells the X20 for 1,299 dollars and the bundle for 2,499 dollars. Best Buy lists them at 1,299.99 for the X20 and 2,499.99 for the bundle. In the eurozone it costs 1,399 euros, or 2,599 euros with the glasses, and in the UK 1,299 British pounds. The X20 includes two months of Xbox Game Pass Premium.
