PlayStation Plus is Sony’s subscription for PS5 and PS4 players. It comes in three plans, Essential, Extra and Premium, and each plan includes everything in the one below it. Here is what you get, what each plan costs in the US and how to choose.
PlayStation Plus prices in the US
| Plan | Monthly | Yearly |
|---|---|---|
| Essential | 10.99 US dollars | 79.99 US dollars |
| Extra | 16.99 US dollars | 134.99 US dollars |
| Premium | 19.99 US dollars | 159.99 US dollars |
Three month plans cost 27.99, 43.99 and 54.99 US dollars. Prices are different in other countries, so check the official PlayStation Plus page for your region before you subscribe.
Essential: monthly games and online play
Essential is the base plan. It includes the monthly games you can add to your collection every month, online multiplayer, exclusive PlayStation Store discounts, exclusive content packs for select free to play games, cloud storage for your saves and Share Play. You can keep playing the monthly games you claimed as long as your membership stays active.
Every month we post the new lineup, like the PlayStation Plus monthly games for September.
Extra: the Game Catalog
Extra adds the Game Catalog, an on demand library of hundreds of PS5 and PS4 games you can download and play while you are a member. It also includes Ubisoft+ Classics, which Sony values at 7.99 US dollars a month. Sony notes that from January 2026, PS4 games are added to the catalog only from time to time.
Recent catalog additions we covered include Wobbly Life and Metro Exodus.
Premium: classics, trials and cloud streaming
Premium has everything in Extra and adds the Classics Catalog of older PlayStation games, game trials so you can try select games before you buy them, cloud streaming of select PS5 games to your PS5 and PlayStation Portal, and the Sony Pictures Catalog with up to 100 movies. Sony says cloud streaming needs at least 5 Mbps, or 15 Mbps for 1080p.
Monthly games vs the Game Catalog
The two are easy to mix up. Monthly games are a small set of games you claim each month on any plan, and they stay in your collection as long as you keep a PlayStation Plus membership. The Game Catalog, on Extra and Premium, is a much larger library you download from while you are a member, and Sony adds and removes catalog games over time, so it works more like a rotating library than a collection. If your membership ends, you lose access to both until you subscribe again.
Which plan should you pick?
- Essential if you mostly play online with friends and like adding a few games to your collection each month.
- Extra if you want a large library so you can try many games without buying each one.
- Premium if you want PlayStation classics, game trials or cloud streaming on PlayStation Portal.
