AION 2 is preparing for its global PC launch, bringing the long-running MMORPG series into a new open world built with Unreal Engine 5. With two rival factions, eight playable classes, true flight and a combination of PvE and PvP content, it is already one of the most closely watched MMORPG releases of 2026.
In our latest GamingBroject pre-release breakdown, we examine 15 essential things players should know before entering AION 2. The full video is embedded on this page and covers the details without turning this article into a repeat of the same list. Here is the essential context around the release, platforms and core experience.
When does AION 2 release globally?
AION 2 is scheduled to launch globally for Windows PC on October 5, 2026. The game will be available through Steam and NC PURPLE.
Players who purchase a Founder’s Pack can receive Advance Access beginning September 30, 2026, creating a five-day early entry period before the full global launch. The base game is free to play, so players who are not interested in early access can wait for the official release without buying the game itself.
Founder’s Pack contents and prices vary by edition. Anyone considering one should check the current official store details before spending money, especially because the main practical advantage is access ahead of the free launch.
Which platforms are confirmed?
The global version of AION 2 is being developed specifically for Windows PC through Steam and PURPLE. PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch versions have not been announced for the global launch, so console players should not assume that additional versions are on the way.
NC has also confirmed plans for regional servers across North America, South America, Europe and Japan, with support planned for multiple languages. That regional approach matters for latency, communication and the long-term health of a large-scale MMORPG community.
What kind of game is AION 2?
AION 2 is a third-person, open-world action MMORPG powered by Unreal Engine 5. It continues the central identity of the original AION while presenting exploration and combat through a more modern third-person format.
The game combines a large shared world with character progression, solo activities, group content, PvE encounters and competitive PvP. Flight is not being treated only as a faster way to travel. It is designed to influence exploration, positioning and aerial combat, making the sky part of the battlefield.
That focus could help AION 2 stand apart from MMORPGs where flying is mainly a late-game convenience. The real test will be how consistently aerial movement is integrated into quests, encounters and competitive play.
Elyos or Asmodians?
Players will choose between the Elyos and Asmodians, the opposing factions at the centre of the AION universe. This choice establishes each character’s identity and places the player inside the wider faction conflict that supports both PvE and PvP systems.
AION 2 will launch globally with eight playable classes. Choosing the right combination of faction and class could shape the opening hours significantly, especially for friends and guilds planning to begin together. Our full video looks more closely at the confirmed class lineup and the decisions worth considering before creating a character.
A world built around flight
According to NC, AION 2’s world is approximately 36 times larger than the original AION. Size alone does not make an open world successful, however. Content variety, traversal, meaningful exploration, server performance and the density of activities will matter far more than the headline number.
Flight has the potential to make that scale meaningful. A world designed around movement across both land and sky can create a very different sense of freedom from a traditional MMORPG map, while aerial combat adds another layer to positioning and class balance.
PvE, PvP and the questions that remain
AION 2 includes solo and group activities alongside PvE and PvP content. That gives it the opportunity to reach players who prefer exploration and progression at their own pace, organised groups looking for cooperative challenges, and competitive players interested in faction conflict.
This is still a pre-release analysis of the global version, not a scored hands-on review. Combat feel, performance, progression balance, monetisation and the quality of the live-service structure can only be judged properly when the game is available under real launch conditions.
