Insomniac Games Director of Community and Marketing James Stevenson has criticized the way social media algorithms amplify negativity around Marvel’s Wolverine.

His comment followed renewed debate over recent gameplay footage, but it was not a formal studio announcement or a direct response to one specific complaint.

What Stevenson Actually Said

In a personal post on X, Stevenson described the constant stream of negative content as “a relentless onslaught.” He argued that the platform’s algorithm pushes amplified negativity into users’ feeds and questioned whether developers should be encouraged to read or post there.

Some headlines have presented his message as an attack on anyone criticizing Marvel’s Wolverine. That interpretation goes too far.

Stevenson was discussing the algorithm and the volume of outrage it promotes. He did not say that normal criticism is illegitimate or that players raising concerns have mental health problems.

Online discussion remains divided. Some players have questioned the combat shown so far, certain boss encounters, the amount of visual guidance and the similarities to Insomniac’s Spider Man games. Others believe short gameplay clips are being removed from their context because outrage attracts more engagement.

Marvel’s Wolverine Remains on Schedule

Nothing in Stevenson’s message suggests a delay, cancellation or major development change.

Marvel’s Wolverine remains scheduled for September 15, 2026, exclusively on PlayStation 5. Insomniac describes it as a brutal single player action adventure featuring an original story focused on Logan.

Criticism of an unreleased game is reasonable when it focuses on footage, mechanics and design choices. Personal attacks and algorithm driven outrage are something different.

The finished game and independent reviews will ultimately provide a much stronger basis for judgment than isolated clips circulating across social media.
