Bulkhead is bringing WARDOGS Season 3 forward after admitting that the Season 2 progression wipe did not work as intended. The studio shared the update on X on October 17, just two days after Season 2 went live in Steam Early Access on October 15, and promised more details in a dev vlog next week.
Faster progression undercut the wipe
Season 2 brought the game’s first progression wipe along with new equipment and vehicles. Bulkhead says it deliberately sped up progression this time and now calls that decision “the wrong call.” Some players reached Tier 4 armor and main battle tanks within days, so for many people the reset “never really landed,” and the studio admits some things are clearly out of balance. As Bulkhead put it, Season 2 was meant to be a fresh start, but “for a lot of you it hasn’t felt like one.”
The team also dealt with an exploit. A backend update announced on October 15 removed the Lonestar Cash and XP bonus, fixed driver progression, closed a driver exploit that handed out early tank access, and prepared Limited Mode servers without power weapons or vehicles. Players who abused the exploit received temporary bans and had their cash and XP reset to zero, with Bulkhead conceding “we dropped the ball here.”
No reset this weekend, Season 3 instead
Rather than wipe everyone again right away, Bulkhead argues a quick reset this weekend “would be unfair on everyone already enjoying the climb.” Instead, Season 3 and some of its planned content will be moved significantly forward, giving the community the clean restart Season 2 was supposed to deliver. There is no date yet, and the studio says it will keep watching how the imbalances play out before making further changes. Its message closed with a simple line: “This is what Early Access is for.”
Still one of the biggest games on Steam
The stumble has not emptied the servers. Insider Gaming counted roughly 209,000 people playing on Steam at the time of its report, which made WARDOGS the fifth most played game on the platform. The shooter from Bulkhead and publisher Team17 entered Early Access on September 10, and its Steam page says the studio expects it to stay there for about one to two years, with a higher price planned at full release.
