New Super Mario for Switch 2: Rumors and High Hopes

Switch 2 still has no brand new 3D Mario. Reports from NateTheHate and ComicBook.com point to 2027, but Nintendo has confirmed nothing yet.

New Super Mario for Switch 2: Rumors and High Hopes

It’s hard to picture a Nintendo console without a standout adventure starring Mario. The beloved character is woven into the company’s history and, for many of us, he’s one of the main reasons we buy its consoles: we want to play the next big Super Mario.

Right now, though, the Switch 2 is still waiting for its own completely new 3D Super Mario adventure. Mario is already on the new console in titles like Mario Kart World and Mario Tennis Fever, but those deliver different experiences from the exploration and platforming game that fans of the mainline series are waiting for.

Super Mario Odyssey and Super Mario Bros. Wonder both come from the previous generation, on the original Switch. Even the upgraded Super Mario Bros. Wonder Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, which includes the Meetup in Bellabel Park expansion, is built on the existing game. So the anticipation is for a truly new entry, designed for the new console.

What Are the Rumors Saying?

According to information from insider NateTheHate, relayed by Nintendo Life, the next 3D Mario is reportedly targeting 2027. ComicBook.com published a similar report in September, citing the leaker account Malo932. This is unconfirmed information, and Nintendo has not given any official timeline.

As for the name, no specific title has been revealed in those reports. Super Mario Odyssey 2 remains a possibility that fans of the series are discussing, but it is not a confirmed name. We also don’t know whether the next game will build on Odyssey or introduce a completely different idea.

The setting, the new mechanics, whether Luigi might be a playable character, and whether there will be cooperative play also remain unknown. The reports we have so far don’t offer that kind of detail.

Personally, I think a big new Super Mario adventure is one of the games Nintendo fans are looking forward to most. We want new worlds, clever ideas, and that joy of discovery the series is known for. Above all, we want to see how Mario will make use of the Switch 2’s capabilities.
