Albion is finally back on the calendar. The new Fable from Playground Games launches February 23, 2027, and the latest official gameplay gives us a clearer look at Bowerstone, combat and the people who inhabit this fantasy world.

When does Fable release?

The confirmed launch date is February 23, 2027. Earlier official messaging targeted fall 2026, but the date changed when Xbox announced the February launch in June. Players buying the Premium Edition can begin on February 18, up to five days ahead of the standard release. Xbox has not announced a Nintendo Switch 2 version. Do not confuse this game with Fable II: The developer describes its project as a new beginning and a reboot, not a direct sequel to Lionhead’s original trilogy.

Which platforms will Fable launch on?

Fable is confirmed for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC on February 23, 2027. On PC, it is listed on Steam and through the Xbox ecosystem. The Xbox Store purchase supports Xbox Play Anywhere on Xbox console and Windows PC; a Steam purchase does not include a console copy. No Nintendo Switch 2, PS4 or Xbox One version has been announced.

How much does Fable cost?

In the United States, the Standard Edition is listed at $69.99 and the Premium Edition at $99.99 on both PlayStation Store and Steam. The Premium Edition includes the full game, early access, a cosmetic content pack, a digital artbook and soundtrack, and the post-launch Order of the Hero expansion. It is also planned for day-one Game Pass availability on supported Xbox and PC plans; PlayStation and Steam purchases are separate. Xbox Play Anywhere applies to a qualifying Xbox Store purchase on Xbox console and Windows PC, not to a Steam or PS5 purchase. Store prices and access terms can vary by region.

What the newest official gameplay actually shows

The August gamescom footage is more useful than another cinematic trailer. Xbox’s 18-minute quest walkthrough follows a mission through Bowerstone, where the studio says players can enter every building and buy every house. It introduces Humphry and demonstrates how a choice can change an encounter. A separate 16-minute official combat video shows the intended flow between melee attacks, ranged weapons and magic against Albion’s creatures. These are developer-selected slices of a game still in development, not proof of how the final release will perform.

The June story trailer also introduced Isabel, played by Hayley Atwell, and teased the return of Jack of Blades. Xbox has not detailed Jack’s role in the new story, so that reveal remains a question for launch. See the official cast announcement.

If you want a longer look at the social systems, watch the official Living Population gameplay demo from June. It is age-restricted on YouTube, so it may open there instead of playing inline. The studio says Albion contains more than 1,000 individually built NPCs with routines, relationships and opinions about the Hero. Your reputation is meant to carry consequences beyond a simple good-or-evil meter. That is an ambitious promise; we will judge how convincingly it works when we can play the finished game.

What about PC requirements?

Steam has published official PC requirements. Both tiers require 64-bit Windows 10 22H2, DirectX 12 and 135 GB of available storage on an SSD.

Minimum: AMD Ryzen 5 2600 or Intel Core i7-6850K processor, 12 GB RAM, and an AMD Radeon RX 6600, Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 or RTX 5050, or Intel Arc A580 graphics card.

Recommended: AMD Ryzen 5 5600 or Intel Core i5-11600KF processor, 16 GB RAM, and an AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT or Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 Ti graphics card.

The Steam listing also advertises optional DLSS 4.5, AMD FSR 3+4 and Intel XeSS 2.1 on compatible hardware. These are published requirements, not a promise of a particular frame rate; check the store page again before purchasing or preloading.

GamingBroject’s take

The combat footage finally gives Fable some momentum, but the living world is the real test. If owning a house, meeting a villager and making a questionable choice actually echo through Albion, this reboot could have a personality of its own. If those systems are mostly surface-level, beautiful scenery will not carry the adventure. We have not played it, so this is a pre-release assessment, not a review. The safest move is to watch the gameplay, check your platform and wait for independent impressions before spending $100 for early access.
