Valor Mortis has already earned back what it cost to make and market, only seven days after it launched on October 13, 2026. One More Level, the Polish studio behind Ghostrunner, shared the milestone on X on October 21, calling it an official break even point for its first person soulslike.
A milestone confirmed in a stock exchange filing
The news first appeared in a regulatory filing. On the evening of October 20, the Krakow studio told the Warsaw Stock Exchange in current report number 23/2026 that it had received preliminary sales data from its publishing partner, Lyrical Games. Based on those figures, the company estimates that total net revenue from the game now exceeds its production, sales and marketing costs, the point the industry calls recoupment.
The studio has not shared unit sales, revenue or player counts, so the exact size of the success is still unknown. On Steam, the game holds a Mostly Positive user rating from more than 2,200 reviews at the time of writing. Valor Mortis casts players as William, a soldier of Napoleon’s army brought back from death, and mixes demanding combat with swords, firearms and supernatural powers across a campaign of roughly 20 hours.

Game Pass helped, but the royalties come later
Valor Mortis arrived on day one with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass under a deal between Lyrical Games and Microsoft. In a June filing, One More Level said the full payment from Microsoft would count toward paying back the publisher’s costs, and that the agreement would have a strongly positive effect on the game’s results and profitability. The studio has not said how much of the total came from Game Pass and how much from store sales on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox.

Breaking even on paper also does not mean the money has reached the studio yet. Revenue is settled in cycles set by the publishing contract, based on what stores and partners actually pay out, and One More Level expects its first royalty payments by the first quarter of 2027 at the latest. The company stressed that its numbers are an estimate built on early data.
More patches, New Game Plus and a story DLC
Work on the game is far from over. A patch released on October 21 adjusted enemy and boss hitboxes, tuned damage windows and fixed a list of crashes and progression bugs, and the team says more updates are on the way. Before launch, the developers promised a New Game Plus mode later this year with tougher enemies, and said they would like to add full French voice acting down the line.
The bigger addition is a Major Story DLC planned for 2027, a separate side story set in the same world that is included in the Deluxe Edition. Under a September amendment to the publishing deal, Lyrical Games is funding that DLC and other support work through October 2027. Those new costs will be added to the amount the game has to earn back, so One More Level warns its own share of revenue may dip for a while until the publisher recovers them. The same amendment also widens the list of platforms planned for Valor Mortis, although no new systems have been named.
