Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA Gets 120fps and GameShare Co Op on Switch 2

NIS America is bringing Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA to Nintendo Switch 2 on February 25, 2027, with support for up to 120 frames per second and two player co op through GameShare. The Switch 2 version costs 39.99 US dollars on the Nintendo eShop, while a physical Special Edition sold by NIS America comes as a Game-Key Card for 49.99 US dollars.

What the Switch 2 version adds

Nihon Falcom’s action RPG follows Adol Christin, who washes up on the cursed Isle of Seiren and builds a village with other castaways while dreaming of a blue haired girl named Dana. On Switch 2, the headline change is performance: NIS America says the game runs at up to 120fps, and a second player can join in co op using GameShare, the Switch 2 feature that lets a friend play along without owning the game.

The release keeps all of the cosmetic DLC from the PS4 and PS Vita versions. The Nintendo eShop listing shows text in English, French and Spanish, and RPG Site points out that this is the first time Ys VIII offers Spanish. Voices are in English and Japanese.

Price and the Game-Key Card edition

The digital version is listed at 39.99 US dollars on the US eShop and 39.99 euros in Europe. For collectors, the NIS America online store already takes pre orders for a Special Edition at 49.99 US dollars. It includes the game, a digital soundtrack, an acrylic keychain and a store exclusive bandana.

Keep in mind that this physical edition is a Game-Key Card. The cartridge works as a license key, and the official site notes that an internet connection is required to download the full game. Players who want a complete game on the cartridge will not get one here.

No upgrade for Switch owners so far

The Switch 2 release is a separate product on the eShop, not an upgrade pack, and NIS America has not announced any discount or upgrade path for people who own the 2018 Switch version. That older version still runs on Switch 2 through backward compatibility, and Nintendo lists it as behaving the same as it does on the original Switch, so the new features stay exclusive to the new purchase.

A long voyage across platforms

Ys VIII first launched in Japan on PS Vita in July 2016, then reached PS4, and arrived in the West in September 2017. PC and Switch versions followed in 2018, Stadia got it in 2021, and a PS5 version followed in the West in November 2022. NIS America lists February 25 for North America, Europe and Oceania alike. A Japanese Switch 2 release has not been announced.
