Tormented Souls 2 is out now on Nintendo Switch 2. Dual Effect’s fixed camera survival horror sequel, published by PQube, launched on the eShop on October 15, almost a year after it hit PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. It costs 29.99 US dollars digitally, and there’s a physical edition at US retailers for 39.99 US dollars.
If you grew up on the original Resident Evil and Silent Hill, this is the closest thing to a new one from that era. Fixed camera angles, tank controls, limited saves, puzzle boxes everywhere. The first Tormented Souls reached Switch in 2022, so the sequel is finally catching up.

What you’re actually getting
You play Caroline Walker again. After surviving Wildberger Hospital in the first game, she takes her sister Anna to a remote clinic in the mountains of southern Chile, looking for a cure. Then a cult led by Mother Lucia takes Anna, and things go very wrong at Villa Hess.
- Classic controls by default: fixed cameras, tank movement and limited saves, plus an assisted mode if you want a gentler run.
- Reality switching: Caroline can cross into the Other Side to find alternate paths and solve puzzles.
- Bigger arsenal: weapons include a nailer and a chainsaw, and you can swap weapons mid fight.
- Switch 2 download size: 24.6 GB, with English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Japanese, Korean and Chinese text.
One thing to know before you buy the boxed version: the physical release is a game key card, not a full cartridge. You’ll still need to download the game to play it. Also unclear is whether the free New Game Plus update, which added the Electric Lance and Flamethrower on other platforms in February 2026, is included on Switch 2. PQube hasn’t said, so treat that as unconfirmed.

What players are saying
Switch 2 owners have only had a day with it, so the best read on the game is still Steam, where it sits at Very Positive with 87 percent of about 1,600 reviews recommending it. The praise is consistent: the atmosphere, the soundtrack and the puzzles, which several players call the best part. Fans of the first game say the sequel is bigger, with more areas and weapons.
The complaints are just as consistent. Combat is the big one. Players call the aiming clunky, the attack cooldowns awkward and some boss attacks hard to read. A few reviews mention bugs, including a late game soft lock and duplicated key items, and one reviewer felt it was buggier than the first game. Some puzzles are obscure enough that people reached for a guide.
Our take
Tormented Souls 2 knows exactly who it’s for, and that’s its strength. If tank controls make you smile instead of wince, this is a well built, well priced love letter, and handheld is a natural fit for a game you play in tense 30 minute bursts between save rooms. PQube says it sold more than 100,000 copies in its first six weeks, so there’s clearly an audience.
The combat criticism is real, though, and it won’t feel any better on Joy-Con. Our advice: if you’re on the fence, the digital version at 29.99 US dollars is a better deal than the 39.99 US dollars key card box, which still makes you download 24.6 GB. Wait for early Switch 2 performance impressions if frame rate matters to you, since neither PQube nor Dual Effect has listed resolution or frame rate targets.
