Solo Leveling: Arise Overdrive Sets 39.99 US Dollar Console Price

Solo Leveling: Arise Overdrive launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 3, Netmarble Neo has announced.

Console launch date and time

Publisher Netmarble and developer Netmarble Neo announced that Solo Leveling: Arise Overdrive arrives on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series on November 3 at 4:00 p.m. PT, which is 7:00 p.m. ET. The action RPG first launched on PC through Steam and the Microsoft Store, so this release moves it onto consoles for the first time. Push Square points out that it has been a year since the PC version dropped, which means the console edition arrives well after the original launch.

Editions and what they cost

Console players can pick between two editions. The Standard Edition costs 39.99 US dollars. The Deluxe Edition costs 44.99 US dollars and adds an exclusive Sung Jinwoo costume, a Cha Hae-In emoji set and additional in-game items. Players who only want the game itself can go with the Standard Edition, while those who want the costume and emoji set need the Deluxe tier.

Story and combat

Noisy Pixel and Gematsu add that Arise Overdrive follows Sung Jinwoo as he builds his abilities and becomes the Monarch of Shadows. Netmarble describes a retelling of the original webtoon story together with new adventures exclusive to the game. Combat centers on weapons and skill combos, with Extreme Evasion for dodging monster attacks and a perfect parry for counterattacks. A skill tree branches into 8 different job advancements, so players can build their own combat style and experiment with different abilities as the story moves forward.

Monarch Awakening and weapons

Gematsu notes that Netmarble also highlights a Monarch Awakening system. Players unlock abilities through the Monarch’s Awakening to overwhelm the battlefield as Sung Jinwoo changes into the Ultimate Monarch of Shadows. On the gear side, the game lets players craft powerful weapons from the original webtoon, and Netmarble names Kasaka’s Venom Fang and the Demon King’s Daggers as examples of what can be made from items dropped by monsters.

Raids and weapon crafting

The game supports four-player cooperative raids, where groups take on boss encounters together. Netmarble says players can fight the Commanders as Jinwoo or as a party of other hunters. Outside the raids, players defeat monsters in the field and use the items they drop to craft weapons. Single player is also an option, so the game does not require a group of friends to enjoy it.

Premium model and early reviews

Despite the webtoon tie-in, Push Square notes this is not a free-to-play gacha game. It is a premium release with no microtransactions or live service aspects, though the Xbox store page lists a couple of small DLC packs sold separately from the main game. Reviews of the PC version were harsh. Gaming Bolt gave it a 4/10 and criticized how little of the source material players actually get to play. Push Square expects the console version to be more polished a year later.

Our Take

The no-microtransaction, premium setup is the best thing this console release has going for it, because players know the full price up front. The harsh early reviews are the real hurdle. A 4/10 from Gaming Bolt on the PC version means console buyers should look for fresh impressions after launch before paying the Standard Edition price. We would watch how the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions are received on November 3.
